Sahara India Pariwar Extends Scholarship Scheme to 391 meritorious students and 32 sports achievers of Pune district who belong to Low Income Group.

• The scholarship has been extended to a total of 391 students and 32 sports achievers  from Pune

Pune, February 26th, 2013: Sahara India Pariwar, a major business conglomerate of India, today provided scholarship to 391 meritorious students and 32 sports achievers of Pune district who belong to lower strata of the society. Out of these 391 students, the scholarship was extended to 191 students at Graduation level and 200 students at Post-Graduation level. The meritorious students at Graduation level will be provided Rs. 750 per month (Rs. 9,000/- annually) as scholarship while students at Post-Graduation level will be provided Rs. 1,500 per month (Rs. 18,000/- annually). Out of these 32 sport achievers, the scholarship was extended to 20 State level achievers (Rs.60,000 /- annually), 9 National level (Rs.1,20,000 /- annually) and 3 International level (Rs.2,40,000 /- annually)  The Guest of Honour for the event was Dr. Arun Adsool, Pro-Vice Chancellor, Pune University and Mr. Balkrishna Akotkar, Ex Olympian .

Under the Scholarship Scheme for the Meritorious Students of Low Income Group for the academic year 2012-2013, Sahara India Pariwar had invited applications from the Students. From the total of 1300  application received, 191 students at graduation level and 200 students at post-graduate level have been selected whose monthly income is below Rs.3 lac.

The scholarship scheme for meritorious students is a part of one of the 4 welfare schemes that were announced by ‘Saharasri’ Subrata Roy Sahara – Managing Worker & Chairman, Sahara India Pariwar. The other schemes include

Individual accident cover to the 17.07 lakh voters of Pune Lok Sabha constituency wherein Rupees One lakh will be provided as financial assistance to the nominee from the family of the deceased  whose death has been occurred in a road accident. Similarly Scholarship is also awarded to the promising sportspersons of Pune District who have performed at State, National and International level.

Sahara India Pariwar is also providing Scholarship to the sportsperson of Pune district who are playing at the state, national and International level on monthly basis

Besides, Sahara is also running 9 Mobile Healthcare Unit Vans and providing public health services to 134 villages of 6 Blocks in the rural area and 2 urban slums of Pune District. Each of these MHU vans has a. Team of qualified doctor, a pharmacist and a driver and is equipped with primary health equipments

Sahara India announces 'India Center' at U.K

The final highlights of the initiatives which were suggested by Saharasri in June 2012 during his one-on-one meeting with Mr. David Cameron at London, were presented by Sahara India Pariwar

Mumbai, 19 February 2013: ‘Saharasri’ Subrata Roy Sahara, Managing Worker & Chairman, Sahara India Pariwar, presented the final highlights of 2 initiatives, ‘Sahara Think Tank’ and ‘India Center’, to the Prime Minister of U.K., Mr. David Cameron, in a close-door round table conference in Mumbai. The close-door round table conference was attended by heads of 9 major corporate houses of India. The initiatives were earlier discussed on 24th June, 2012 in one-on-one meeting of ‘Saharasri’ and Mr. David Cameron at 10 Downing Street, London and were appreciated by the Prime Minister and had promised support to the initiatives.

The ‘Sahara Think Tank’ initiative is planed to provide a platform through a well structured team of young professionals from U.K., to tap the unique business opportunities. The initiative will be executed under the guardianship of Lord Patel of Bradford, OBE and other eminent people from British society. The meeting in Mumbai was the first edition of ‘Sahara Think Tank’ initiatives.

Sahara India Pariwar has also announced the setting-up of an iconic ‘India Center’ in a joint venture partnership with the University of East London. The ‘India Center’ planned on a 4 acre will be a unique facility housing student facilities with world class teachings and learning experience, to come-up at the University of East London Dockland Campus. Mr. David Cameron appreciated the fact that this would be the only kind of its endeavour in the world between a corporate and a university. The university has already acquired the require 4 acre land for the Centre.

Sahara's Articulation on SEBI's Actions

As per Sahara, the total liability is not likely to exceed Rs. 5120 Crores, which amount has already been deposited with SEBI.  As regards the instalments to be deposited with SEBI as per the order of the Hon’ble Supreme Court, Sahara has filed Interim Application before the Hon’ble Supreme Court interalia praying that Sahara be permitted to furnish security through   a credible financial institution instead and in place of the payment of    the  balance instalments, since Sahara has already redeemed significant number of OFCD Holders and any further payments to SEBI would amount to double payment. The said Interim Application is pending and is likely to come up next week.

Further, today’s order of SEBI for attachment of the assets is based on old facts and details of assets as of January, 2012.  Since, then facts have changed in view of redemptions made by Sahara from time to time. This fact of redemption was known to SEBI. Hence, today’s order does not take into account the changed facts and circumstances.

As per the order of the Hon’ble Supreme Court, the liability to refund the monies is of SIRECL and SHICL. Hence, attachment, of assets of the individuals by SEBI is incorrect. Whereas not only company has paid to SEBI enough amount which is much higher than outstanding liabilities of two companies, the fact also remains in the whole affair Sahara is genuinely concerned for investors.
